Melie -Natural and Deli
Our good friend, Alejandro and his wife, just opened up this sidewalk cafe on one of my favorite corners of Tulum, Centauro Sur and Andromeda Oriente. This small intimate cafe sits just beneath the new Fashion Look Spa.
From the moment we saw the simple and hip decor and the abundance of fresh fruits sitting in the windows, we knew that this was going to a very refreshing meal.
Our thought was confirmed when we saw the menu featuring a wide the variety of foods. We started with a glass of orange and carrot juice, although kiwi and mango certainly caught our eye. Alejandro went over to his open kitchen and pulled out the fruits and made the juice. It was amazing. I have not had juice that fresh in... well maybe ever.
We started with a bowl of fresh topical fruit (cut to order)with granola and yogurt topped with the lightest touch of honey. It was a wonderful start to our day. We also ordered a simple salad which was just that- a simple salad nothing to amazing but tasty and the kids ate some molletes. These are perfect snacks, especially for kids. They are a simple bread roll with beans and melted cheese on them and sometimes ham. The kids love them and they are inexpensive and filling.
The last part of our meal was a very tasty sandwich on a wheat baguette. We chose number 6 with salami, smoked cheese and black olives topped with lettuce, tomato and avocado. This sandwich was amazing and well worth the very good price.
The kids were able to sit at a little kids table and play with some toys while we sat and sipped an espresso made from 100% organic coffee beans from Chiapas, Mexico and talk with Alejandro and some tourists from Sweden.
This light meal was a wonderful delight for our palate. These sandwiches would a perfect meal to grab and take with you while exploring cenotes or ruins. If you get a chance to stop by, tell Alejandro hello and order some juice. A perfectly refreshing treat on a hot day in the Mayan Rivera. You may even find us there, I am dying to try the fodue.
